Hi, I’m Leanne.

I started The Backyard Teacher to help educators like you to provide stimulating and engaging activities to help your students grow and learn. I want to help you keep up-to-date with the latest research and pedagogy so you can be the best educator you can be.

I’ve worked for years as a classroom teacher, both in schools and Early Childhood settings. I felt overwhelmed MOST of the time – swamped by changing pedagogy, by administering assessments, by planning, by trying to teach standards and manage data…by trying to fit in ALL THE THINGS! I was stressed, unhappy and felt like a total failure because my kids weren’t hitting their targets, no matter what I tried to do to change things up.

I had lost the joy I’d started with, that crazy-good feeling when you teach something and see the lightbulbs come on when your students ‘get it’.
